Absolutely genius post. As an instructional designer, technical writer and content developer, I always have to fight my natural instinct to jump to what I think is the "right" answer based on my experience (for example, I immediately thought "A blend of the two – use the term 'treatment plan' because patients want to be treated for their issues, not cared for, and 'plan' is a much more accessible word than 'protocol'" — then mentally smacked myself in the head because as you astutely pointed out, the audience hadn't even been defined). This series of insights is giving me SO MANY questions to afk my SMEs and stakeholders, and different approaches to my consultations. Thank you for sharing all of this!
